The article about our cloister on web site of electronic library

The author of the article is Marina Yurievna Nechaeva, candidate of the historical science, senior staff scientist of the Institute of History and Archeology of the Ural Department of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It wasn't by chance that our cloister got into her field of view. Marina Nechaeva has been studying the history of the Ural monasteries for some 15 years. Her survey in this area of expertise found its reflection in several works, among which are "Monasteries and authorities: administration of the East Ural monasteries in the eighteenth century" (Ekaterinburg, 1998, 218 pp.), "Beyond the walls of the ancient cloister. The four-century history of the Verkhoturye monastery" (Ekaterinburg, 2000, 83 pp.), as well as a number of brochures and articles.

The article is a peculiar historical excursus beginning from the end of the eighteenth century, the date of the cloister birth, to the present days. The author dwelled on the main stages of the monastery history, showing the selfless role of the Mother Superiors in its foundation and evolution. Special attention is focused on the cloister rebirth in the post-Soviet era. The author also touched upon such questions as the evolution of various obediences, the continued charity tradition: the monastery supports the charity refectory and children's orphanage. However, the author justly states that the main thing about the monastery is its spiritual life. Therefore, one can't imagine monasticism without unceased praying, not infrequent confession and spiritual talk. The article based on the historical documents is one of the most complete research works devoted to the monastery. Taking into account that the work is of popular scientific character, it can be useful for all those who are interested in the Orthodox monasticism.
